Client Profile

To underscore the central role and rights of music creators – particularly in the face of ongoing debates over copyright law – CooperKatz conducted a comprehensive advocacy and awareness-building campaign for ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers).

This program – targeted at policymakers, music industry influencers, the general public and ASCAP members – worked to articulate the role of copyright in the digital age and its contribution to a creative society. It also aimed to ensure that the voice of ASCAP and its members is heard in the debates over the future of music.

Key program components included a white paper authored by CooperKatz, titled “Music Copyright in the Digital Age,” and a “Bill of Rights for Songwriters and Composers,” designed as a grassroots advocacy initiative as well as a vehicle for facilitating mainstream media coverage and social media buzz. CooperKatz also provided PR support for the annual ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO in Los Angeles, CA and booked high-level media briefings / backgrounders for ASCAP’s leadership with top-tier news outlets and leading industry trade publications.
