Grinnell College, a highly-regarded liberal arts institution in Iowa, engaged CooperKatz in 2008 to design a comprehensive public relations campaign, focused on raising the College’s profile by increasing top-tier national media coverage. 


CooperKatz developed a strategic thought leadership program, securing byline opportunities for senior College leadership on timely issues such as the changing role of an undergraduate liberal arts education, making liberal arts colleges sustainable, the role of liberal arts colleges in advancing positive social change and academic “redshirting” as a way to address our nation’s declining K-12 system, among others.


The team created an experts’ bureau comprised of a broad range of Grinnell spokespeople with expertise on academics, institutional programs, student life issues, career development, admissions / financial aid policies and more. CooperKatz has also provided media / presentations skills training to campus experts including senior leadership, faculty and members of student government.


In addition, we provide strategic counsel and execution regarding special initiatives, such as the appointment of Dr. Raynard Kington as Grinnell President and the launch of the annual Young Innovators for Social Justice prize (promoting both the calls for nominations and prize winners through both public relations and advertising). CooperKatz assisted in shaping a communications plan surrounding a major campaign and vote on Grinnell’s financial future, specifically surrounding the institution’s need-blind policies.


Over the course of our engagement, CooperKatz has secured high-level placements in outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, U.S. News & World Report, Associated Press, Bloomberg and, to name just a few.
