We sat down with summer intern Lindsay Edling to find out more about her.
1. Where do you go to school and what are you studying?
2. What do you enjoy most about interning at CooperKatz?
Everyone I work with really takes the time to help me better understand the clients. My ideas are heard, and I feel like I’m challenged and learning what it takes to be a PR professional.
3. Is there anything you’ve learned from your internship about working in the PR industry that you weren’t expecting or that has surprised you?
Each client has different needs, and I’m surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed diving deep into what each client wants from us. I never thought I’d be lucky enough to work with a different piece of the big PR picture for each team; this way I really understand all the nuts and bolts that go into what we do as a whole.
4. What is the best class you’ve ever taken and why did you love it?
I absolutely loved my Crisis Communications class at PSU. I was wary at first because it was 2 hours long, but I was pleasantly surprised at how interesting and challenging it was – that made it go by quickly! We would walk into the lab and our professor would lay some devastating piece of news on us and assign us either a press release or a speech defending the subject. It really sharpened my professional communication skills and showed me the reality of the toughest part of PR.
5. Any advice for future CK interns?
Ask questions about the clients that have nothing to do with a project you’re working on. Stepping outside the intern bubble and devoting time to really understand what your teams are talking about in meetings helps you be more integrated. Also, get to know everyone. It goes by so fast and trust me, you’ll be sad to leave these people.
