Media outreach for the event, which coincided with both April Cancer Awareness Month and National Tartan Day, included a tartan-wrapped open-air promotional bus with performing pipers and drummers on-board that cruised Manhattan. Spokespersons for the event appeared on “Good Morning America,” “CBS Early Show,” “FOX & Friends,” “TODAY Show,” New York 1, Tartan TV (UK-based) and the BBC. On the day of the event, coverage included the major broadcast networks, numerous reports by local stations in major markets and print stories that ran both nationally and locally.
The event raised much needed funding for both Gilda’s Club and Marie Curie Cancer Care, helping people on both sides of the Atlantic living with the disease. It also helped strengthen economic ties between Scotland and the U.S.
